Saudi Arabia has officially announced that the moon of Dhul Hijjah has been sighted. The day of Arafat will be on 15th June while Eid-ul-Adha will be observed on 16th June 2024.

The observation of the crescent moon is critical in defining the dates of Eid Al Adha and Arafat Day, which are deeply embedded in Islamic history.

Muslims across the globe rely on local moon sightings to mark the start of the month of Dhul Hijjah, which commemorates the beginning of the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca.

The moon for the month of Dhul Hijjah has been sighted in Saudi Arabia. The Arafat day will be on 15th June 2024.

Following are the key timelines for Hajj and Eid-ul-Adha dates:

  • June 7, 2024: Beginning of Dhul Hijjah
  • June 15, 2024: Arafat Day (9th Dhul Hijjah in the Islamic calendar)
  • June 16, 2024: Eid Al Adha (10th Dhul Hijjah in the Islamic calendar)

On the Day of Arafat, fasting is said to compensate for sins committed prior and the year ahead.

“Today I have perfected for you your religion, and completed upon you. My blessing, and I have chosen for you Islam as (your) religion.”

(Al Qu’ran, 5:3)

This year’s Dhul Hijjah begins on June 7. The ninth day, commencing on the evening of June 15th is Arafat Day.

Saudi Government has made all necessary arrangements for the pilgrims beforehand to facilitate them in their Holy experience. The annual pilgrimage is the biggest gathering that takes place in the month of Dhul Hijjah each year.
