#MuslimGirlRamadanBookClub Day Three: Juz Three Takeaways

Ali-Imran, or The Family of Imran, discusses themes and topics similar to Al-Baqarah. It touches on Allah SWT being the one and only source of divine revelation and Islam specifically being the only accepted religion. On the third day of our #MuslimGirlRamadanBookClub, we uncover some of the important lessons of Juz three.

The title of the Juz comes from the fact that this chapter touches on the story of Maryam (Mary) — the daughter of Imran, Yahya (John the Baptist), and Isa (Jesus).

Here are my main takeaways from Juz three, Ali-Imran.

Allah SWT encourages us to provide pieces of advice to our fellow Muslims by praising the Muslim community during the time of the Prophet PBUH.

You are the best community ever raised for humanity – you encourage good, forbid evil, and believe in God.

— Quran (3:110)

This line touches on the communal aspect of being Muslim, the Ummah. It showcases that to Allah SWT, the Ummah is the best version of a community. It serves as a reminder of our purpose and how we should aim to behave and operate as a community in today’s time, especially since there are so many disagreements and such that take place.

The Quran is one of the sources of divine revelation that we know of from Allah SWT to Prophet Muhammad PBUH and it is meant to act as guidance and wisdom for the people. Allah lets us know in this Juz how He judges His creations.

You O Prophet have no say in the matter. It is up to God to turn to them in mercy or punish them, for indeed they are wrongdoers.

— Quran (3:128)

This verse is important because oftentimes the Muslim community can come across as judgmental due to the harshness that surrounds ways of living, behavior, modest dressing, etc. This verse stresses that this is not Islamic. As Muslims, we should provide people with grace and leave for the judgment to be made by Allah SWT despite what we think.

In another verse, Allah SWT assures us of His power so that we can put all our trust in Him.

If God helps you, none can defeat you. But if He denies you help, then who else can help you? So in God let the believers put their trust.

— Quran (3:160)

I absolutely love this verse. It touches on the recurring concept of having full faith in Allah SWT in getting guidance and prayers answered. It encourages for Muslims to reckon that the power of Allah SWT is unmatched to anything and anyone else. We should solely rely on Him through trust as we navigate this life.

Ali-Imran provides a lot of context for Islamically renowned and important figures such as Maryam and Isa. It’s a history lesson! Along with this, the Juz also reiterates many of the key aspects of Islam and practices of it, specifically in regard to divine revelation and the power of God.
